Preferred Health Foundation Presents
Corporate Health Advantage
Understanding the Concept:
Corporate Health Advantage, a Proactive Health Program, empowers your employees and promises to pay corporate dividends. Providing timely and convenient awareness and education regarding commonly encountered diseases will allow your workforce to be more productive, while saving you huge health care dollars as they age. Preventing one cardiac event, as example, will save you almost $90,000.00 (average), while preventing one case of prostate cancer will save you minimally $30,000.00. The concept involves an understanding of basic laboratory blood tests (as a baseline) as the best first step associated with the need for an educational program that encourages lifestyle change. Any health program initiated must result in lower premiums and/or dollars spent on healthcare over time. The concept discussed below is a basic cost effective program that allows educational growth after you begin seeing results. Without Corporate endorsement, health care costs will continue to escalate! More and more companies have turned to the workforce; asking them to be accountable (health-wise), which in turn will save corporate health care expense dollars.
Corporate Commitment to Workforce:
The cost is only $5.00 per employee per month. For a minimal investment of $60.00 per year, male and female employees will receive a Lipid Profile, while the males will also receive a Prostate Specific Antigen (PSA) blood test yearly. The costs of these tests could total in excess of $150.00, if ordered independently. These two tests are essential to an improved understanding for heart disease and prostate disease respectively. More specifically, heart disease is the number one health risk for men and women together, while prostate disease is the number one male health risk. Studies suggest that an improved understanding of these fundamental blood tests decreases physician visits and enhances employee interest and motivation to participate in their own health care. Employees will be encouraged to get these blood tests on a Saturday of their choosing, at a conveniently located laboratory, within 60 days of the plans implementation. The lab results are the property of the individual employee only and may be used by the employee as a baseline or follow-up test to assist their understanding of progress made. Based on the tests performed, the workforce will receive educational material on heart health and prostate health that is easy to read and understand (available in English and Spanish). As a health care enthusiast and Physician, I will be available to give short talks, in a group setting upon request during the year. The Human Resource Department Director will subsequently receive a graphic representation of participation, with the lab results analyzed by age. Included will be data identifying generically the percentages of individuals within the age groups that are at risk. The results received will include the test results only, thereby protecting the privacy of the individual. The Human Resource Director will be able to objectively track the success of the program. Without a summary analysis, wellness or lack of wellness will never be known at the corporate level.
Additional educational material available, beyond discussion on heart health and prostate health (both epidemic diseases), includes important and timely topics such as understanding blood pressure, hormone replacement, osteoporosis (bone loss), diabetes, and arthritis. Again, all educational material will be easy to read and understand, while reflecting expert opinion with well-documented references.
Wellness in the workplace does not occur by accident! Many corporations and businesses currently embrace and/or implement a flex program whereby participants receive a monthly health related financial stipend beyond doctor visits. Our program will complement this practice nicely and ensure greater value to the employee and corporate executives alike. The cost of this service should be paid through the corporate budget, or with the blessings of your insurance management team, as an employee benefit.
Beyond the basic awareness and educational program outlined above, the opportunity to hold health fairs at a modest cost will be made available also. While the exact cost of a health fair depends on the services rendered, it is surprising how inexpensive these events can be. Many professionals welcome the opportunity to speak to their sub-specialty interest areas as a marketing tool. Under our guidance, these health fairs have been highly successful in the past and may include any of the following tests and/or procedures: Bone Mineral Density (BMD) testing, prostate exams, eye exams with Glaucoma testing, skin cancer evaluation, podiatry, chiropractic, understanding BMI (body mass index), hearing tests, on-site mammography, implementation of flu shots, finger stick cholesterol, and finger stick glucose testing. Beyond this, specialists will be asked to speak on their respective topics, including the role of diet and nutrition on individual health. At this type of event, time will be allowed for question and answer sessions as well. With most business concepts, a yearly event that invites the spouses to take part also represents a tremendous value added benefit to employment.
Finally, a healthy, cost effective and convenient corporate initiative, promises to boost employee morale, improve productivity and provide convenience with complete privacy as related to the results of the workforce. Beyond this, from a corporate perspective, any event will provide need satisfaction, fostering a healthier work environment, while providing a vehicle to cost savings.
